Join us for this month’s MOSAIC luncheon with guest speaker Kellie Markey, founder of Dorothy’s House, a safe house for young women who are victims of human sex trafficking here in Iowa. Human trafficking is a modern-day form of slavery and is currently becoming the largest criminal industry in the world generating 32 billion dollars each year. Ms. Markey will focus on local human trafficking issues in our own community and what we can do to “not look the other way.”
Pope Francis has spoken extensively about the need to end modern day slavery. In Envangelii Gaudium, he states: “I have always been distressed at the lot of those who are victims of various kinds of human trafficking. How I wish that all of us would hear God’s cry: “Where is your brother?” (Gen 4:9). Where is your brother or sister who is enslaved? Where is the brother and sister whom you are killing each day in clandestine warehouses, in rings of prostitution, in children used for begging, in exploiting undocumented labor? Let us not look the other way.”
Please consider bringing a gift card from HyVee or Fairway as an effort of support for Dorthy’s House residents!

“The trade in human beings, a modern form of slavery, …violates the God-given dignity of so many of our brothers and sisters andconstitutes a true crime against humanity.”
